Small and medium-sized companies are the lifeblood of economies throughout Latin America and the Caribbean, accounting for 90 percent of companies and more than 50 percent of jobs. They have benefited from recent economic growth and strong domestic demand, but they could grow more if they exported to neighboring countries or to other regions. While Latin America’s “multilatinas” have the human and financial resources to enter international markets, smaller companies generally do not. The Inter-American Development Bank is unveiling a new interactive social media network for businesses called ConnectAmericas, designed to help businesses establish contacts with potential clients, suppliers and investors; provide them with useful online training and information on how to export; and give them easy access to a wide variety of financing options.
