Date: Friday, 28 March

Time: 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.

Location: Hotel Sauípe Park, Bahia Room 1

Impact investing is becoming increasingly popular among mainstream investors and those involved in development work around the world by combining financial and development returns to measure portfolio performance. It is considered to be a tool for channeling private investment into projects aimed at tackling some of the most intractable social and environmental problems. It has the potential to catalyze resources into underserved sectors crucial to Latin America and the Caribbean’s social and economic development. But what exactly is impact investing—an asset class, an investor class, an investment approach, a new form of philanthropy? And what constitutes an impact investment—intentional impact, impact on the Base of the Pyramid, market-rate returns, lower than market rate returns? In this session, panelists will address these issues by presenting a variety of viewpoints related to intentionality, impact, and rate of returns.
