All entries should be submitted through the MIF system online; please read below before submitting your photos.

  • Up to 5 photographs may be submitted per person. Only digital photos will be accepted.

  • Digital photos should ideally be submitted in high resolution (JPG format) 150cm x 100cm at 72 dpi or 36cm x 24 cm at 300 dpi with a completed Application Form.  Photos may be in color or black/white.

  • Each photo should include: date, place and country where it was taken.

  • The entrant must own the copyright of the photograph, and it must be of his or her original work. The photo must not be copied, adapted or otherwise reproduced from any other source.

  • The photos must not be violent or derogatory of any ethnic, racial, gender, religious, professional or age group.

  • Images should reflect the scene as it appeared, without alteration (other than standard optimization, including removal of dust, cropping, adjustments to color and contrast, etc.)

  • All entries must include a text of up to 100 words explaining how the photo portrays the story of female and male entrepreneurs in Latin America and the Caribbean who are challenging stereotypes in the workforce and at home.

  • Photos will not be returned. The IDB is not responsible for lost, damaged, late or misdirected entries, or for faulty uploading connections, garbled transmissions, unauthorized intervention, or technical malfunctions.

  • Winners will be notified by e-mail, according to information provided on the entry form. If any winner fails to claim his or her prize (via email at within 10 days of being notified, that winner may forfeit his or her prize. The IDB is not responsible for suspended or discontinued online service or any change of email address which may result in a potential winner not receiving initial prize notification.  If attempted notification is returned as undeliverable, if the winner cannot be verified or if the winner rejects or is otherwise unable to accept the prize as stated, or the winner is otherwise disqualified, the Prize will be forfeited and may be awarded to an alternate winner who will be selected from among all remaining eligible Photos according to the procedures outlined in the terms and conditions of the 2011 MIF Photo Contest-In Focus: Shifting Gender Perspectives.

  • All entries must be received by the IDB before noon EST September 1st, 2011. Entries should be submitted electronically using the online system. All questions can be directed to

  • The MIF reserves the right to use the photos in any format in or outside its headquarters in Washington D.C. All entries may be used and/or altered by the MIF to be used in printed or on-line publications, websites, slide shows, screensavers or any other media, and may be copied and displayed in any country, provided that all uses are accompanied by appropriate attribution to the photographer. The IDB will hold the copyright to the collection of 2011 MIF photo Contest-In Focus: Shifting Gender Perspectives.
