Training Workshop on Non Revenue Water

The Water and Sanitation Division of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) in association with the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), the Caribbean Water and Waste Waster Association (CWWA), UN-HABITAT, The Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI), and within the umbrella of the Water Operators Partnership Program (Program of Cooperation among water operators of the Latin American and Caribbean region), organized a 3-day training workshop under the theme "Non revenue water”. The workshop was attended by 13 water operators from the Caribbean. The workshop was held in Georgetown, Guyana, on May 18 – May 21, 2009 at the Cara Lodge Hotel. The objectives of the training were:

  • Introduce key concepts in strategic planning for tackling the issue of non-revenue water;
  • Train managers and technicians;
  • Exchange experiences. 

The training touched upon the following topics: 

  • Presentation of key concepts: the “water balance”
  • Introduction of a quality information systems;
  • Presentation and analysis of the components of non-revenue water;
  • How to prepare an intervention strategy;
  • Presentation of best practices, case studies and equipment.
