Effective Social Protection Policies and Systems in Crisis Contexts and in Urban Areas

The Inter-American Development Bank will be hosting the XI Hemispheric Meeting of the Poverty and Social Protection Network of the Regional Policy Dialogue on October 29-30, 2009. The meeting will be held at the Bank headquarters in Washington D.C.

The Regional Policy Dialogue is an initiative of the Inter-American Development Bank that aims to establish a forum for expanding dialogue, sharing experiences, and identifying opportunities for technical cooperation between countries of Latin America and the Caribbean. Like in previous meetings, the purpose will be to provide a forum for senior public policy and decision makers to discuss matters related to poverty reduction and effective social protection in the region. The goal of this meeting will be to discuss “Effective Social Protection Policies and Systems in Crisis Contexts and in Urban Areas.” The following priority issues will be addressed:

  • Analyzing the financial crisis and its short, medium and long-term impacts on social policy
  • Defining an agenda for social policy in urban areas
  • The effectiveness of Social Protection Networks in crisis contexts and in urban areas
  • Social policy responses in times of crisis and urban approaches
