  • Room Plenary: IADB-WB "Leveraging the Impact of GEF Financing into Sector Development Objectives and Priorities: The Perspective of Finance and Sector-Level Ministers.”
    9:00 – 11:00

The GEF is often seen as a source of funding that it is mainly of interest to Ministries of Environment and other environmental entities. To a large extent, Ministers of Finance and other sector-level ministries have not internalized GEF financing in their overall development plans, failing to realize the full potential impact of GEF financing. As result, the programming of GEF resources may not be the most efficient or effective at the national level. The objective of the side event is to promote a frank dialogue among invited ministers who will address the issue of how to mainstreaming GEF financing more effectively in economic sectors and drivers to enhance GEF sustainable development impacts; to improve programming mechanisms for setting priorities for GEF investment allocations; and to leverage greater levels of public and private sector environmental financing.
