The IDB is currently in the process of formulating its Private Sector Development Strategy, which will steer the Bank in its efforts to promote development through the private sector in the coming years.
The public consultation, which will enter its second phase (open from March 18 to April 17), will seek to gather input and comments on the draft strategy from a wider audience, with a special focus on the beneficiaries of the Bank in the Latin America and Caribbean region, so as to enrich the final version.
The private sector is an essential pillar of sustained economic growth and poverty reduction. 90% of economic activity in Latin America and the Caribbean is generated by the private sector, as is 9 of every 10 jobs. However, the region has presented an overview of low revenue growth compared with developed countries, especially in comparison with the rapidly growing economies of East Asia.
In this context, the Ninth IDB Capital Increase and the resulting new institutional agenda established development through the private sector as one of the strategic objectives for achieving the targets set in the new agenda: reducing poverty and achieving sustainable development.
The Calgary consultation is the first of face-to-face to be held during the second phase of the public consultation on the Private Sector Development Strategy.
Calgary will bring together a wide range of highly relevant representatives from Latin American leaders and other members of the Bank, to national representatives, CEOs, representatives of other multilateral financial institutions, development agencies, civil society representatives and banks.
The development of the region requires the participation of all and thus your participation in the consultation will be extremely useful.
Participants and moderators will include:
- Mr. Steven Puig, Vice President for Private Sector and Non-Sovereign Guaranteed Operations
- Mr. Santiago Levy, Vice President for Sectors and Knowledge
