About Asuncion
Asuncion (full name: La Muy Noble y Leal Ciudad de Nuestra Señora Santa María de la Asunción) is the capital and largest city of Paraguay. The "Ciudad de Asunción" is an autonomous capital district not part of any department. The metropolitan area, called Gran Asunción, includes the cities of San Lorenzo, Fernando de la Mora, Lambaré, Luque, Mariano Roque Alonso, Ñemby, San Antonio, Limpio, Capiatá and Villa Elisa, which are part of the Central Department. The city sits on the left bank of the Paraguay River, almost at the confluence of this river with the River Pilcomayo. [Main menu] 

Silvio Pettirossi (IATA: ASU) International Airport is located 6 km. from downtown Asuncion and 5 minutes away from the venue. Participants will be responsible for the airport tax when departing the country. [Main menu]

The XI IDB-Civil Society Meeting will be held at BOURBON Hotel, Asunción-Paraguay. The costs of room and board for confirmed participants will be covered by the IDB for up to three nights, in the designated hotel. Telephone calls, room service, laundry, mini-bar and other personal expenses are the responsibility of each guest.

The voltage in Paraguay is 220 v AC 50 Hertz. Most electrical appliances do not need adapters since they work with 110 and 220 volts. Please check beforehand the voltage of your equipment such as hair dryers, shavers, battery chargers, notebooks, camcorders, etc. Please take with you a round outlet adapter. [Main menu]

This is a green event. At the time of registration, participants will receive an information package. We invite you to visit the virtual community – Paraguay virtual, to get all the information and documents.

There will be simultaneous interpretation from English to Spanish and vice versa in most sessions of the event but not for social events. [Main menu]

Paraguay is a safe place for visitors. However, we recommend taking normal safety precautions. Use the hotel security boxes to keep your personal documents and valuables, and use only reliable taxi services. [Main menu]

Travel and Health Insurance
IDB is not responsible for participants' travel insurance to cover theft or personal injury. We encourage that participants take their own precautions. [Main menu]


  • Travel expenses (air or ground transportation) will be the responsibility of each participant.
  • For security reasons it is strongly recommended to use only taxis offered by the airport or at the hotels. [Main menu]

Some nationalities are required to get a visa to enter Paraguay.  We recommend that you verify if this applies to your nationality by contacting the Paraguayan Consular Office nearest to your home. Visit and under General Services press on Visas. [Main menu]
