The Inter-American Development Bank and the Labor Markets and Social Security Unit of the Social Sector are organizing an event on Better pensions, Better jobs in Latin America and the Caribbean.
With opening remarks from the President of the IDB, Mr. Luis Alberto Moreno; Vice-President for Sectors and Knowledge, Mr. Santiago Levy; IDB Executive Director for Colombia and Peru, Mr. Juan Carlos Echeverry; the Chief of the Labor Markets and Social Security Unit, Carmen Pagés-Serra; and, leading experts Orazio Attanasio (UCL London), Solange Berstein (Superintendent of Pensions, Chile) and Stephen Kay (Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta).
During the event, panelists will be discussing the flagship of the Labor Markets and Social Security Unit Better pensions, Better jobs: Towards Universal Coverage in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The authors of this book are Mariano Bosch, Senior Specialist in Social Security; Ángel Melguizo, Pension Coordinator and Lead Specialist; and Carmen Pagés-Serra, Chief of the Labor Markets and Social Security Unit.
The book offers an overview of the current state of pension coverage in Latin America and the Caribbean and proposes a series of possible avenues towards universal coverage, not only as an instrument to fight poverty during old age; but also, as part of an agenda for higher formal employment and productivity growth.
