Dialogue

Subregional Dialogue on Citizen Security

The Sub Regional Policy Dialogue on Citizen Security was held in the city of Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, on November 18th and 19, 2013. The Dialogue is framed in the Citizen Security Network, promoted by the Inter-American Development Bank since 2010. This dialogue focused on the role of subnational governments of the region (states, departments, provinces) in the management of citizen security, with emphasis on the following topics: i) prevention of violence , ii) measurement of security: monitoring and evaluation systems, and iii) partnerships with the private sector for citizen security.

 

The Dialogue promoted the exchange of experiences, lessons learned, and solutions to common challenges among citizen security authorities from the local, intermediate and national of Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, among other countries in the region.

 

The event was organized in partnership with the Justice and Human Rights Secretariat of Rio Grande do Sul, and the technical and operational support of the Inter-American Dialogue, the Forum Brasileiro de Segurança Pública and Fundação igarapé.
