Labor and Social Security Regional Policy Dialogue 2014: “Towards an effective labor market inclusion in Latin America and the Caribbean”

Date: 22 Sep 2014 to 26 Sep 2014

Time: 8:00 AM

Location: Seoul, Korea

South Korea represents a very interesting example of a country that only a generation ago began implementing a comprehensive protection system against unemployment. As a result, South Korea now has an "Employment Insurance System", which was introduced on July 1, 1995 to guarantee the protection of unemployed workers, promote employment, and improve the professional capabilities of workers. The "employment insurance" not only pays compensation to the unemployed, but also includes strategies for workers to keep their jobs and programs for the development of work skills, all designed to promote effective labor-market insertion. This idea is at the core of what the IDB believes should be the direction of policy and program design in the region.

All this motivated SCL/LMK to organize the 2014 RDP in Seoul, Korea, and combine a study tour with a regional policy dialogue, hosted by IDB and MOEL - Ministry of Employment and Labor of Korea.
