General Information

Place and date of the meeting: The Fifty-seventh Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Inter-American Development Bank and the Thirty-first Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Inter-American Investment Corporation will be held in Nassau, The Bahamas, from 7 to 10 April 2016.  The Inaugural Session will be held at the Meliá Nassau Beach Resort and the Plenary Sessions will be held at the Baha Mar Convention Center.

About Nassau:  Nassau is the capital of The Bahamas and is known as a cultural and commercial center of the country.

How to get there: Nassau is 13.9 km away from Lynden Pindling International Airport (NAS). There are 19 airline companies with flights to Nassau.

Language: English

Currency: The Bahamian dollar is the official currency of The Bahamas. Conversion rate:  1US$ = 1 BSD

Visa: Entry requirements differ depending on what country of which you are a resident and citizen. The requirements for the different countries may be found on The Bahamas official webpage: http://www.bahamas.com/entry-requirements

Vaccines: There are no required vaccinations for entry to The Bahamas, however, travelers over age one must provide a Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate if arriving from countries with risk of Yellow Fever, including countries within Latin America and Africa.

Accommodations: The Bahamas Organizing Committee will be responsible for matters related to accommodations of participants. More information will be included shortly.

Weather: In March, the temperature in Nassau ranges between 19°C/66°F and 34°C/93°F. Weather forecasts can be found at www.weather.com

Electricity: Electrical current is 120 volts AB, 60 Hz. Visitors from abroad who want to use small electrical items should bring an adapter.

Time zone: During the Annual Meeting, Nassau will be -5 hours from the Greenwich Mean Time (GMT-5).

Services

Airport arrival, customs and immigration: The host country will have duly identified staff available at Lynden Pindling International Airport to assist arriving participants.

Tourism information about The Bahamas: General information about flights, sightseeing, the history and culture of the area, and additional details on services available in The Bahamas during the Annual Meeting can be found on the website made available by the host country.

Simultaneous interpretation: During the official sessions, simultaneous interpretation will be provided into the Bank’s official languages: English, French, Portuguese, and Spanish. Seminars will have interpretation into Spanish and English.

Other services: An emergency health unit will be available on site. Cellular phone rental service and ATM machines will also be available.
