Regional Workshop on Non-Agricultural Market Access (NAMA) for Caribbean countries

In light of the evolving needs of Caribbean countries for trade-related technical assistance and capacity-building, and the challenges faced byfacing them for their effective participation in the multilateral and regional trade negotiations, the World Trade Organization Secretariat (WTO), the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), through its the Institute for the Integration of Latin America and the Caribbean (INTAL) and the Integration and Trade Sector (INT), and the Caricom SecretariatCaricom Secretariat, are jointly organizing a Regional Workshop on Market Access for Non-Agricultural Products (NAMA) for Caribbean Countries. This workshop will take place in Port of Spain, Trinidad from 29 June 8 to June 101st , 2010 and will focus on Non-Agricultural Market Access issues and Negotiating matters, including the use and scope of Tariff reduction simulation and an introduction to the Scheduling of new commitments.

As the program reflects, the aim of this Workshop is to enhance and strengthen the participants' understanding of the current discussions and proposals on the elements of the modalities of the NAMA negotiations, particularly in light of the recent developments of the on-going negotiations.  The Workshop is also aimed to at presenting the available sources of information on tariff and trade information and related analysis tools, so as to help participants to use them, in particular in assessing the impact of proposed Ttariff reduction modalities to on their respective economies.  This course is addressed to government officials who are directly involved in the Market Access Negotiations for Non-Agricultural products and those who will be involved in scheduling new tTariff commitments.  The National Governments will designate the officials. The Workshop is closed to the general public.
