WTO-IDB/INTAL Regional Workshop on Market Access for Non-Agricultural Products (NAMA) for Caribbean Countries

Date: 10 May 2011 to 13 May 2011

Time: 8:00 AM

Location: Kingston, Jamaica

The World Trade Organization Secretariat (WTO), the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), through the Institute for the Integration of Latin America and the Caribbean (INTAL) and the Integration and Trade Sector (INT), and the Caricom Secretariat, are organizing a Regional Workshop on Market Access for Non-Agricultural Products (NAMA) for Caribbean Countries. The workshop will be held in Kingston, Jamaica, May 10-13, 2011.

The objective of this training activity is to enhance and strengthen the participants' understanding of current discussions and proposals in the NAMA negotiations. The Workshop is also aimed at presenting the available sources of tariff and trade information and related analysis tools, so as to help participants to use them, in particular in assessing the impact of proposed tariff reduction modalities on their respective economies. This course is addressed to government officials who are directly involved in the Market Access Negotiations for Non-Agricultural products and those who will be involved in the scheduling of new tariff commitments.

Regional Workshop is aimed at those capital-based officials whose responsibilities directly involve the ongoing negotiations and implementation of regional and/or multilateral trade agreements. Each Caribbean Ministry related to the topic will nominate two officials with direct responsibilities in the above-mentioned area. IDB/INTAL will finance the participation of the officials. The Workshop is closed to the general public.
